1 room opening September 1, 2007 in our 5 year old group house in 14th St Heights/Petworth on Emerson St.

We live in a 7 person group house that is a ~100 year old single family home. Many of us have lived in this house for a few years together and 2 of the roommates bought the house from our previous landlord and continue to rent it out. We are looking for someone who is interested in a "long"-term living situation who wants, in addition to a nice place to live, a nice lil community to become a part of. You must be willing to share responsibilities including cleaning and obviously need to get along well with others. Not that it's hard, but living closely with other people requires more effort than living alone.

Socially we all get along well but maintain individual lives. It is common for us to spend about 2 nights a week hanging out together drinking beers on the porch, watching movies, or going out to things together. We are neither a commune nor a flop house.

We are all adults with serious employment (and one full time grad student) and would expect that anyone who wanted to live with us would probably be fairly stable. We currently don't have pets in the house due to allergies and smoking stays outside on the porches. We are looking for any kind of person as long as they are clean with the common spaces and are comfortable living with a bunch of fun 25 to 34 year olds. People in their mid 20s on up preferred. If you would describe yourself as responsible that would be a good thing.

Stats: Rent is $500/mo Security deposit is $500 Utilities vary but are generally $50-100, with the highest cost being during winter. We have basic cable and wireless internet, no phone. The house is 7 occupied bedrooms, 1 guest bedroom, 1 living room, 1 kitchen, 4 baths, 1 full basement used for laundry and storage and workspace and band practice, 3 porches, 1 hot tub, 1 shed, 2 spaces off-street parking out back and unrestricted on-street parking right out front. We've been here long enough so that the kitchen, living room, guest room, and porch are fairly well furnished (although our design decisions are generally based around the nicest furniture we have been given for free) 1/2 block from 14th St. bus lines, 2 1/2 blocks from 16th St and Georgia Ave bus lines, 1 mile from both Petworth and Columbia Heights Metro stations The landlords live in the house so if something needs to be taken care of ASAP we will respond quickly. Although, purchasing a house in DC has left us without tons of money and we don't mind the charm of some loose plaster here or a little peeling paint there.

Please respond (katspank@gmail.com) with as much info about yourself as possible and if you seem to be a serious candidate that we're interested in expect to come by the house some night in the next week to hang out, meet everyone, see the house, and have a few beers if you're into that.
