No More Freaks Show, at the fabulous 9:30 Club on Saturday, April 24th

In the last Presidential election, 18% (24 million) of potential voters were between 18 and 24, but cast only 8% (8.6 million) of all votes. People over 65 cast over 20% of all votes.

The average age of a member of Congress is 54.9.

You must be over 35 to run for President.

Botox is in, but don’t let it fool you. It doesn’t make them think young…

Live up to your potential. Make your voice heard!

NARAL Pro-Choice America and Punkvoter.com have teamed up to fight the Bush administration's aggressive efforts to shove government into our private lives and to let young people know what they can do to stop them from rolling back our rights. They are proud to present the No More Freaks Show at the fabulous 9:30 Club on Saturday, April 24th, only the first of many events we have planned to spread the word. Doors open at 5:30!

The raucous Lunachicks are reuniting to give a special performance for the occasion, joined by the self-described “frantic, romantic and gigantic” Butchies, with DC’s own Washington Social Club kicking off the show. It will be a hilarious hard-core spectacle of versatility, originality and irreverence.

Tickets are only $10, so rock out to stand up for fundamental rights, and get public about the Bush administration’s contempt for your privacy. The show is all ages, so purchase your tickets today.

Go to http://www.930.com or the 9:30 Club box office (815 V Street, NW) to buy tickets for the show.
Nearest Metro: Green Line - U Street/Cardozo Stop – Exit towards 10th Street.

Since 1988, New York City's queens of volume, the Lunachicks, have been plaguing the world with their powerful brand of punk, a touch of metal & a fistful of rock-n-roll. Spitting out their version of the world colored by outrageous spectacle and humor, the Lunachicks have garnered themselves an impressive worldwide following. Formed just before their high school graduation, the Lunachicks began making a name for themselves in NYC clubs like CBGB’s and The Limelight. The in-your face girl punk esthetic of Theo (vocals), Gina (guitar), Squid (bass/vocals) and Sindi (guitar) caught the attention of Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore and scored them their first record contract. Influenced by bands like The Ramones, Black Sabbath, Kiss, The Clash, and Alice Cooper, the Lunachicks are constantly reinventing themselves with versatility and style and pushing the boundaries of the status quo. Over the years the band has changed labels and had slight shifts in its line-up, but Theo, Gina, Squid, and Chip, the drummer since 1994, have honed their talent and skills to impressive heights of mature sophistication without losing their satirical edge. The Lunachicks have toured with such groups as The Offspring, Rancid, NOFX, Marilyn Manson, Reverend Horton Heat, Luscious Jackson, and The Muffs and have played with the likes of Pearl Jam, Fugazi, Dinosaur Jr., The Ramones, The Buzzcocks, Rollins Band. But, as they declare in one of their songs, the "Lunachicks make lots of noise/To prove rock & roll's not just for boys." Their proclamation is a call to arms and a celebration of the endurance of tough-rocking women in a man's world. The original and unstoppable “bad girls gone worse” continue to inspire thousands of young women all over the world to follow in their footsteps and have definitely made an indelible mark in rock ‘n roll history.

The Butchies are made up of singer/songwriter Kaia Wilson on guitar, Melissa York on drums and Alison Martlew on bass guitar. The North Carolinian dyke-punk trio the Butchies have given queer-core a new life since their 1998 debut album Are We Not Femme?, adding polish, emotional honesty, and eccentricity to a style of music that too often was regarded as a heap of indecipherable noise. Their fourth album, Make Yr Life, which was released in early April, proclaims: We are The Butchies. We will not forcefully overtake the world, but cleverly win it over with raw, honest songstressing – making the kind of music that sticks, that matters, that truly reaches into the listener’s chest and makes them feel again. Amen. All hail The Butchies! The Butchies say that their “music is like (punk) Pop Rock Candy - fun and intense at the same time!” We couldn’t have put it any better!

Washington Social Club is comprised of Martin Royle (guitar/vocals), Olivia Mancini (bass/back-up vocals), Randy Scope (drums), and Evan Featherstone (guitar/back-up vocals). From their first gig WSC’s incendiary live shows became hallmark. Combining riotous abandon with the manic punk energy, delicious grooves, addictive pop melodies and original arrangements the band won fans and acclaim before even cutting an album. This past December, Dylan Magierek of San Francisco's Badman Recordings heard the band, immediately signed them, and is releasing their debut album in May. Additionally, Washington Social Club will be part of MTV’s April installment of “Advance Warning,” and will embark on a spring/summer U.S. tour. "Things are picking up now and it’s incredibly exciting” but “no matter how `successful' we become… the one thing we’ll always have is the ability to rock." And really, isn't that all anyone could ever ask for?
